DUBLIN

Pubs (Chiara Moser)

A very popular thing about Irland are the pubs, which are nearly in every street. They are opened during weekday till midnight and normally on the weekend till one in the morning. Mostly there are life musicians who bring their own music but of course also some typical Irish music and old school songs which everybody knows. Estimated there are around 772 pubs in Dublin. The most iconic one is `The Temple Bar Pub`. But you can not only find one bar which is called that way. There are many with that name but everyone has something attached to the end like ´the Temple Bar Inn´. The only negative aspect of these pubs is that one glass of beer costs around six euros.

Restaurants (Lena Plochberger)

In Ireland there are so many different restaurants. You can eat at Mexican, Asian, Italian and typical Irish restaurants. On our 3rd day in Ireland, we asked our teacher which typical Irish restaurant would be the best to eat at. He sadly had to tell us that most of the Irish food is not that good and it would be better for us if we eat at the other restaurants because the food there is better. There was a small Mexican restaurant near our school, the people there were really nice and the food was very good and not that expensive. You can choose between nachos, quesadillas, burritos and tacos. You can decide between many toppings and they also have a cute room downstairs where you can eat if it’s cold outside or it rains like most of the time in Ireland.

Sights (Theres Zwickl)

If you want to have some fun, I can recommend you some great sights to visit. One of the most popular sights of Ireland are definitely “The Cliffs of Moher”. There you can enjoy a beautiful landscape and a breath-taking view of the ocean. If you love hiking and want to see a more traditional and classic side of Ireland, “The Cliffs of Moher” are absolutely for you.
For beer-lovers I recommend visiting the “Guinness Storehouse”. There you can learn everything about the 250-year-old history of Irelands most famous beer and taste all kinds of different beers. Before telling you about my favourite sight in Ireland I will give you a quick overview of other worth-visiting sights: Dublin Castle, Ashford Castle, The Little Museum of Dublin, St. Patrick’s Chruch, Phoenix Park and Christ Church Cathedral. The sights I enjoyed most during our stay was definitely “The Wax Museum”. There you can see different wax figures varying from celebrities to fictional characters to important people of Irish history. Going through the 3-story building was so much fun and we took some great pictures as well. If you are going to visit Ireland, I recommend giving “The Wax Museum” a try.

Shopping streets (Muriel Weilke)

You have the possibility to shop everywhere around Dublin. But there was one main street, Grafton Street. You could compare it to our Maria Hilfer Street. It has a lot of different shops, a few restaurants and a lot of people. When we walked through it there were always people there singing and playing their instruments. Crowds formed around the performers, phones were held up to capture the talent. But in the end wherever you went there where shops and what felt like ever fifth shop was an Irish gift shop. When you looked inside all you could see where leprechauns. So I would say, Dublin is like one big shopping street.
